Unshelled Prawns 250 gms

Green chilly 1

Onion 1

Tomato 2

Ginger garlic paste 1 tsp

Turmeric powder ¼ tsp

Chilli powder 1 tsp

Mustard seeds ¼ tsp

Curry leaves and coriander leaves

Sesame oil

For Chettinad Masala powder (Dry roast):

Cinnamon 1 inch stick

Star anise 1

Cloves 2

Cardamom 2

Coriander seeds 2 tsp

Pepper corns 1 tsp

Cumin seeds 1 tsp

Fennel seeds 1 tsp


  1. Dry roast all ingredients for chettinad masala powder and blend them to a coarse powder.
  2. In a pan, add oil. Fry mustard and curry leaves.
  3. Then saute onion till golden brown and saute ginger garlic paste till raw smell goes.
  4. Then add tomatoes. Saute them till mushy.
  5. Then add chilly powder, turmeric powder and ground masala powder.
  6. Add some water and cook till oil oozes out.
  7. Add prawns. Do not add water as prawns leave out moisture which is enough for them to be cooked.
  8. After the water evaporates, switch off the stove and garnish with coriander leaves.
